Cooke Aquaculture Pacific NPDES permit applications to raise steelhead
We invite you to review and comment on applications and support documents Cooke Aquaculture Pacific submitted requesting a permit modification to raise steelhead. The modification would allow Cooke to change species to raise steelhead at the Hope Island, Fort Ward, Orchard Rocks, and Clam Bay net pen facilities.
This ‘Public Notice of Application’ is the first step in the modification process. During this step, we ask you to consider and provide comments on the applications and support documents submitted by Cooke for their request of species change.
Each facility has a current, reissued National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit. This request is only a modification to change the species being raised. Our determination will not extend the life of the permits, which expire in 2024. The current permits were originally issued to allow for two years of closure activities and monitoring after their facilities aquatic lands leases expire in 2022.
