BNSF Railway Oil Spill Contingency Plan 5-Year Update
Ecology invites interested members of the public, local, and tribal governments to review and comment on contingency plans for railroads. Washington Administrative Code (WAC) 173-186 requires railroads transporting oil to have a state-approved oil spill contingency plan that ensures their ability to respond to major oil spills. BNSF Railway has included with this plan a request for an alternative worst case spill volume, which is allowed by law.
The below plan is currently undergoing a review by Ecology and may not meet all requirements of WAC 173-186. Your comments, as well as Ecology’s review, will be considered before approving the contingency plan.
