The Department of Ecology (Ecology) invites you to comment on the Revised Draft Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for the proposed Chehalis River Basin Flood Damage Reduction project.
Proposed project
The Chehalis River Basin Flood Control Zone District is proposing a project to reduce flood damage in the Chehalis-Centralia area by:
This is a Revised Draft Washington State Environmental Policy Act (SEPA) environmental impact statement (EIS), following an original 2020 Draft EIS. After receiving public comments and Applicant project revisions, Ecology determined that expanded evaluation and a Revised Draft EIS were necessary to ensure the environmental review is accurate, complete, and transparent.
Environmental review
Ecology studied the possible significant and adverse impacts resulting from the construction and operation of the project, and summarized findings in the revised draft environmental impact statement (EIS). The review looked at impacts to the natural environment, nearby communities and cultural resources through several studies including air quality, plant and animal habitat, transportation, water resources, water quality, and Tribal and cultural resources.
The EIS is not a decision and does not determine whether the project moves forward. The document will be used to help local and state agencies make permitting and other decisions about the project, if it moves forward.
